The Drop: 5 strains hitting menus in November

This month of The Drop, Dante Jordan's column rounding up all the can't-miss strains and dabs from the best brands and growers, looks at anticipated releases from Pure Beauty, Grizzly Peak, and Cannabiotix.

A new month and a whole new batch of strains you should be putting in your pipe and smoking. Here are the cannabis strains that are hitting menus in November.

Pure Beauty: Casbah Gas

I had some Lava Cake from Pure Beauty during my last California stop-through, and let me tell ya, the boy was smacked. So when I started to work on this month's The Drop, it was one of the first brands to pop on me. It was perfect timing, as the company let me know a new in-house strain was on the way: Casbah Gas.

Pure Beauty's Casbah Gas is a backcross of Super Silver Haze, which means SSH was crossed with itself to create this cultivar. The nose pops with aromatic notes of cheese gas and a slight sweetness. The taste is much of the same, brought to your mouth by a terpene profile abundant in ocimene (very rare), limonene, and caryophyllene. As for effects, you can expect Casbah Gas to hit like a Super Silver Haze: a cerebral high with mood-enhancing effects that pair well with daytime productivity.

Pure Beauty has been working on this in-house strain for about two years, from pheno selection to development. Now, it's finally ready to hit the market, so make sure you cop the first ever Casbah Gas drop in November.

Grizzly Peak: Big Steve's Egyptian Kush

Grizzly Peak be growing the shit out of some weed.

Last weekend I slid through Sweet Flower on Melrose to cop omething floral. That something turned out to be Grizzly Peak's Egyptian Kush. It's a perfect nighttime strain for anyone that's trying to sit back and feel dumb high. Not only is it heavy on the potency, but you'll also be smoking a piece of history.

As the story goes, the strain's breeder, Big Steve, was given some seeds from Egypt at the Grateful Dead Rocking the Cradle concert in 1978. He's had them on deck ever since. Over the years, he worked the strain and found the best phenotype. He then took that mysterious Egyptian phenotype and crossed it with a Gelato x London Pound Cake 75 to create Egyptian Kush.

The flower is super sticky and coated with trichomes. It kicks out a mix of sweet, piney, and gassy aromas thanks to a terpene profile dominant in caryophyllene. You will most commonly feel a couch-lock type of experience after hitting this strain.

Cannabiotix: Rainbow Punch Gelato

Last year, during a road trip through California, I stopped in Orange County with a need for weed. I had no clue what stores were cracking — or brands for that matter. I slid through Weden in Santa Ana and picked the first top-shelf brand with a strain that I loved. That brand ended up being Cannabiotix (CBX) and the strain was Super Silver Haze. Fire.

When I whipped up this month's Drop, I figured I should see what CBX had for the people. Rainbow Punch Gelato was the answer — growing the strain for about six months, November is its first drop.

Rainbow Punch Gelato was bred in-house by Cannabiotix. It's a cross of Purple Rain (Orange Crush x Purple Punch) and Gelato #41. On the nose, RPG kicks out a mix of fruity, candy-like terpenes with slight sour undertones. On the taste, the cultivar has a slight funkiness. These aromas and flavors come to you from a terpene profile dominant in farnesene, limonene, caryophyllene, and myrcene.

The Rainbow Punch Gelato experience features relaxing, soothing, and euphoric effects. It's a great afternoon smoke that will hit you with a potent head high for the rest of the day.

Flow Kana: Peanut Butter Breath

Flow Kana has a fresh batch of Peanut Butter Breath, sometimes called Peanut Butter Cup, coming out of the soil for your head tops. It's part of the brand's Farmer's Reserve line, Flow Kana's highest-graded product. It was grown in small batches in Humboldt County.

Flow Kana's Peanut Butter Breath was bred by Empress Farms, though the strain was originally bred by ThugPug Genetics, and is a cross of Do-Si-Dos and Mendo Breath F2. It smells like citrus mixed with berries and has an earthy finish on the taste. The terpene profile is dominant in limonene, caryophyllene, and myrcene.

Peanut Butter Breath's high is mellow and happy. You'll feel super stoned and happy for several hours.

Veritas Fine Cannabis: The Sauce

Veritas Fine Cannabis in Colorado grows some absolute heat. You should definitely peep its flower any time you get the chance. Last week during MJBizCon, I was fortunate enough to come into possession of some Cherry Punch and Durban Kush from the brand and — boy. On both accounts, boyterps. So naturally, I wanted to see what Veritas Fine Cannabis might be putting on shelves in November: a fresh batch of The Sauce.

The Sauce is a cross of Green Ribbon BX and Gorilla Glue that smells like pine, gas, and slight citrus. On the taste, it has a spicy, skunky finish, expressed by a terpene profile that features limonene, pinene, and caryophyllene dominance.

From The Sauce, you can expect focused and joyful effects that are great for getting shit done. So if you're looking for a strain to get you through a busy day, this cultivar might be your next favorite. Cop it while supplies last.
